Typical tower and utility lifts
- Antennas, radios and mounts on monopoles and towers
- Tower sections, platforms and ice bridges
- Equipment shelters, cabinets and generators at cell sites
- Substation equipment such as breakers and transformers
- Poles, light standards and other utility structures
What to have ready
- Attachment height and the weight of the heaviest piece
- Site address or coordinates, plus access road conditions and any gate or escort requirements
- Nearby energized lines or equipment, and the voltage if you know it
- The carrier's, utility's or general contractor's requirements, such as lift plans, permits or a site safety orientation
Power lines and clearances
Federal OSHA crane rules set minimum distances from power lines, and many utilities and carriers add their own rules on top of that. The operator decides how the crane can safely set up, so tell them what's near the site. For jobs on the California side, see Winterhaven and Imperial County.
